Specialist Programs

Music

Maffra Primary enjoys a good reputation for producing many fine musicians. All children benefit from weekly lessons with a music specialist teacher where they learn basic music skills, helping them to develop gross motor coordination, listening skills, improving memory and thinking skills, and enabling social situations. Music tutors are available with strings (Years 3-6), percussion / drums (Years 4-6), brass (Years 4-6) and woodwind (Years 4- 6). Our Choir and various other instrumental group perform at various times throughout the year within our school and in the local community. In recent years, our Choir has celebrated success at the Sale and Yarram Eisteddfods.

Annual Production

One of the features of our school is an Annual Production involving the whole school in a musical play, performed on stage at a venue in Maffra or Sale. Daytime matinees and evening performances attract large audiences who marvel at the talents of our children in these lavish, high quality shows.

Students at Maffra Primary School receive a comprehensive program to assist them in developing physical skills, including the provision of the following specialist class lessons:

Perceptual Motor Program provided in Foundation classes.

Swimming lessons are provided at the Maffra Pool (outdoor) for Years 3 - 6

Kemp Aquatics (indoor) for Years Foundation to 2

Students participate in house sporting events, including events in swimming, cross-country running and athletics. Our affiliation with School Sports Victoria enables Years 3-6 students who are successful at a house sport level, to progress through from district to state and even national levels of competition.

Our students occasionally participate in Yoga sessions. Yoga benefits children's physical functions, mental health and social and emotional well-being.

Visual Arts

Our Visual Arts program has been designed to develop fine motor and technical skills while inspiring imagination and creativity. Over the course of a year, students gain experience in drawing, painting, printing, sculpting, constructing, collage and textiles. Participation in the program helps students to understand themselves and the world around them. It fosters group participation, problem-solving, confidence, persistence, time management, responsibility, risk-taking and personal pride.
